My 10 Favorite Recipes from 2016

These are my favorite recipe posts from 2016.

My 10 Favorite Recipes from 2016 from Karen's Kitchen Stories
Happy New Year! This year, I decided to round up some of my favorite recipes from 2016 to kick off 2017. The criteria for making this list were.. Does this recipe make me do the happy dance? Do I go, "OMG" when I take my first bite? Does everyone, and I mean everyone, who tries this ask for the recipe? Or... when I open the oven or lift up the lid on the pot, do I jump up and down with glee?

These recipes made this list.

My 10 Favorite Recipes from 2016 from Karen's Kitchen Stories

#1 - Olive Oil Brioche - I went completely Ga Ga over this bread. I just re-read my post, and am kind of embarrassed about it... well, not really. This. Bread. Is. A. Revelation.

#2 - Adjaruli Khachapuri - Georgian Flatbread - This bread is shaped like a boat and filled with cheese. I used Muenster and Mozzarella and topped it with sliced jalapeno and cherry tomatoes. I pretty much jumped up and down with happiness when I tasted this flatbread for the first time.

#3 - Panera Bread Copycat Asiago Cheese Bagels - I made these bagels after the asiago cheese bagel "incident" at work. All I can say is, they disappeared immediately.

#4 - Stir-Fried Clams with Spicy Bean Sauce - These clams are beyond ridiculous... as in ridiculously good. I had never actually made fresh clams before, and had a couple of missteps. When I finally found success, I kept these all to myself. Sorry Mr. Kitchen.

#5 - Crispy Tilapia with Ginger Honey Sauce - Have you ever made a whole fried fish? Me neither. Until this year. I luuurved this tilapia, and am no longer intimidated by frying a whole fish. I know it's ugly, but it's delicious.

#6 - Five Spice Turkey Noodle Soup - Each year I make a turkey soup from Thanksgiving leftovers. This year I decided to go with Asian flavors... and this soup met the "jump up and down" criterion.

#7 - Salted Chocolate Caramel Pecan Bars - These bars are gooey, caramel-y, and decadent. The base is chocolate shortbread, topped with a homemade caramel infused with chocolate. Then, the bars are topped with toasted pecans. Another "OMG, these are amazing" recipe.

#8 - Quiche Lorraine Muffins - These muffins were so delicious. Imagine all of the flavors of quiche Lorraine ... bacon, Gruyere, and onions, all rolled up into a muffin. They are the perfectly sophisticated portable breakfast.

#9 - Vietnamese Carrot and Zucchini Salad with Peanuts - Yes, I succumbed to the lure of the spiralizer. While I'm not yet ready to substitute zucchini for pasta, (or cauliflower for pizza crust for that matter), I absolutely loved this salad. It's dressed with a mixture of lime juice, fish sauce, and sugar, and is filled with delicious vegetables and herbs. Peanuts add a nice crunch.

#10 - Homemade Smashburgers - You know how they say you should not press down a hamburger while it is on the griddle? I'm here to dispel that myth. While I haven't been to an actual Smashburger, I can say that this is one of the best griddle burgers I've ever had. I pretty much had a "leave me alone, I'm eating" moment.

This is the final installment of Countdown to 2017, hosted by Sarah of Fantastical Sharing of Recipes. Thanks so much for putting this together.

Also, Smashburger is delicious and we have one within walking distance so it's a little dangerous. I'll have to try your Copy Cat.

  5. Indeed, you do have great taste. But, tell me something I don't know! ;-)

I love to read these 10 best posts of my favorite food bloggers, one year I might do it myself - I get these mental blocks sometimes, not sure why.

note to self: see a shrink ;-)

  7. The Georgian flatbread is very similar to Peinirli, a similar thing we have here! We think the Turks on the other side of the Aegean also have their own versions, as well as the Armenians. Have you tried a version with sujuk? An Armenian cured meat (beef mostly) with strong Middle-Eastern flavors? It's amazing with cheese and egg (the classic combo for peinirli).
LOVED your recipe dear, sharing it asap!:) xo

    1. I have not tried the Armenian version, but now I need to! Sounds good. This recipe also calls for cheese and egg, but I got "clever" and made it with the peppers and tomatoes.
