"French" Martini

"French Martini"
I'm feeling a bit nostalgic.

I used to manage a large region for a staffing company. If you know anything about the staffing business, let's just say it's pretty high stress and cut throat. And getting new business is brutal. Your prospects are very tough to crack.

And security guards.... Don't get me started on how many buildings I've been thrown out of. Fortunately, as hard won as they are, your clients love you (until their purchasing departments find someone cheaper, regardless of the quality).

So... my message is... celebrations were important. Thus.. the legend of the French martini.

One of the offices I "managed" was in Beverly Hills. The staff was sooooo good. I would hire each and every one of them again if I could.

Anyway, these people liked being rewarded with nights out at martini bars or dinners at a nice restaurant.

I think it began with a foray to Nic's Beverly Hills...

And then somehow we ended up at Encounter (now closed) at LAX... And we were trying to teach the bartender how to make the "French Martini."

The rest of the group ended up flying to Las Vegas on a whim. Seriously... I wanted to go.... but didn't! I can still visualize them as they took off together in the manager's car.

So here is the flexible recipe.

French Martini

The basic recipe involves citrus vodka, Chambord, some sort of citrus or sweet and sour, and champagne. Pineapple juice would also work.

Here's my recipe:

2 1/2 oz. citrus vodka
1/3 oz Chambord
1 T concentrated limeade (pineapple juice or sweet and sour are both excellent substitutes)
Juice of 1/2 lime

Champagne or sparkling wine.

Mix the first four ingredients and shake or stir with ice.

Pour into a martini glass.

Top with champagne or sparkling wine.

Cheers!
