Coffee Caramel Sauce

This coffee caramel sauce will give you your coffee fix in the form of pretty much the most delicious dessert and ice cream topping.

Coffee Caramel Sauce with ice cream

You can use this coffee caramel sauce in just about any recipe that calls for caramel and take that recipe to another level. You could even use this coffee caramel sauce in a caramel macchiato... coffee in your coffee!

I love making desserts with coffee. For example, it totally enhances the flavor of chocolate, even if you just add a little. Try making a granita, coffee ice cream, and Blum's Coffee Crunch Cake. It's even delicious rubbed into steak before grilling.

Coffee Caramel Sauce with flavored coffees

For this coffee caramel sauce, I started with some fabulous brewed coffee from Door County Coffee. They are a Springs Sweets Week prize sponsor and sent 24 of their "pot of coffee" bags of ground coffee in 12 different flavors, such as peanut butter crunch, brownie batter, and cinnamon hazelnut. I used the brownie batter flavor for this caramel, but any flavor would be delicious.

Ingredients in this homemade coffee caramel sauce.

You will need brewed coffee, instant coffee granules, water, sugar, heavy cream, butter, and a pinch of salt.

Coffee Caramel Sauce drizzled over ice cream

I drizzled this sauce on vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream. It was so delicious!

How to make coffee caramel sauce.

First, combine some sugar with a little bit of water in a saucepan and simmer until the mixture turns a dark golden brown. This should take about 5 minutes.

Next, add heavy cream, the brewed coffee, butter, instant coffee, and a bit of salt.

Finally, simmer the caramel mixture, whisking constantly, until the sauce is smooth.

For another great sauce for ice cream, be sure to try my white chocolate hot fudge sauce
