Red White and Blue Burgers

These Red White and Blue Burgers are piled high with everything you would want on a traditional backyard barbecue burger.

Red White and Blue Burgers

These Red White and Blue Burgers are actually slider-sized burgers, mostly because I found these cute little sesame seed burger buns at Trader Joe's. I already had a pound of ground beef, and the package of buns had 8 cute little sesame seed buns, so it was meant to be.

I really should have labeled these burgers as Red, White, and Bleu Burgers, because the blue part is from the blue cheese crumbles that topped the burger patties. You can't really see the blue cheese because I added it to the burgers as they were grilling. It's actually under the Swiss cheese (the "white" component).

I'm a huge fan of combining blue cheese and beef. The combination of flavors is fabulous.

This really isn't a recipe per se. It's more of a celebration of burgers, and to give you some ideas to build an amazing burger or slider for your next barbecue.

Red White and Blue Burger Sliders

How to Build a Red, White, and Blue Burger:

First, toast the buns briefly on the grill prior to building the burger.

For the sauce, I used this Spicy Sriracha Mayo. You could also use Frisco Sauce, Thousand Island Dressing, or even this Patatas Bravas dipping sauce

Add slices of cooked bacon and top them with the grilled burgers, which you've topped with blue cheese and Swiss cheese while they were still on the grill.

Next, add a slice of tomato (the Red component), a slice of red onion (Red too!), a long slice of dill pickle. a lettuce leaf, and mustard.

To prepare the beef patties, buy a pound of 85/15 (lean to fat ratio) beef and divide it into 4 (for regular sized burgers) or 8 (for sliders) equal portions. Form the ground beef into patties without over working it, and then press your thumb in the center of the patties to prevent too much shrinking.

Next, sprinkle the ground beef with salt, pepper, granulated onion, and granulated garlic before grilling and topping with cheese.
