These melting snowman cookies are totally fun to make, and the combination of peanut butter and chocolate is so tasty.

Everyone who tried these cookies all agreed that they were both adorable and delicious. Between the Peanut Butter Cup hat and the soft chocolate and peanut butter cookie base, these were a huge hit.
Not to mention the candy melt melting snowmen with their sprinkle eyes and nose.
One of my favorite flavor combinations for dessert is peanut butter and chocolate, including these peanut butter and chocolate shortbread bars and these homemade copycat peanut butter cups. In fact, I had to give most of these cookies to my grandsons or I'd end up eating them all.
How to decorate these cookies:
To create the melted snowman body, I used white candy melts. To melt them, you can microwave them in bursts or cook them in a double boiler over gentle heat. I actually have an older version of a candy melting pot that gently melts them at the right temperature.
Once they are melted, just spoon them over the top of the cookie. One of the nice things about this recipe is that you don't have to be too exact because it's supposed to be uneven to look like a melting snowman.
Once you've spooned some of the candy over a cookie, slice a sliver off the side of a miniature peanut butter cup and place it onto the top of the cookie (and you have my permission to eat the sliver to neaten things up).
For carrot noses, I used tweezers to place an orange jimmie onto the candy. The jimmies were from a Halloween sprinkle mixture. For the eyes, I found some mini bats in the same mixture that I cut in half. If you can find round black or chocolate sprinkles that are just the right size, they would be even better.
I baked these cookies on a gorgeous new cookie sheet from one of our prize sponsors, Anolon. It's nonstick, and I love the silicone grips on the ends of the pan.

These cookies are delicious on their own. They are loaded with peanut butter, cocoa powder, and a little bit of vanilla, and they are soft and fluffy.
The dough is super easy to put together, and the dough is easy to handle. I divided the dough into 20 pieces and formed the pieces into balls. To make them equal, I used a kitchen scale to weigh each piece.

Melting Snowman Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 7 1/2 ounces (1 1/2 cups) all purpose flour
- 10 ounces vanilla-flavored white candy melts
- 20 bite-sized peanut butter cups
- Mini chocolate or black balls (for the eyes)
- Orange jimmies
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the peanut butter and shortening for about 30 seconds. Add the sugars, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and beat until combined.
- Add the egg, milk, and vanilla and beat until combined.
- Beat in the flour.
- Dived the dough into 20 pieces and form them into balls. Place the balls, 2 inches apart, on two ungreased baking sheets, 10 per sheet.
- Bake the cookies, one sheet at a time, for 9 to 11 minutes. Cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes, and then transfer them to a wire rack. They will be very soft at first, but will firm up.
- Melt the candy melts per the package directions and spoon the melted vanilla candy over the cookies to look like melted snow. Add the peanut butter cups on top. Add the jimmies with tweezers for the nose, and small black or chocolate candy balls for the eyes. Set aside for the candy melts to harden.
