Mini Pizza Mummies

These mini pizza mummies are a fun treat to serve around Halloween!

two mini pizzas on a plate.

They are easy to make and super kid-friendly, both in the assembly and flavor. I used a super easy dinner roll recipe and just rolled them into flat rounds with a small rolling pin before decorating and baking the pizzas!

You can just reserve some of the dough for a few pizzas, and make the rest of the dough into dinner rolls and freeze them for later.

If you don't want to make your own dinner rolls, you can always use frozen dinner rolls that you thaw and bake. Alternatively, you could use English muffins that you've already toasted. Just spread the sauce on them, decorate with the cheese and olives, and give them a quick broil.

Of course, if you have some pizza dough hanging around in your refrigerator, you might want to try making personal pizzas into mummies or even jack-o-lanterns. You'll just have to up the oven temperature (a lot) for baking.

Ingredient Notes:

Sauce: I used jarred pizza sauce.

Cheese: It's super easy to use string cheese for these pizzas. Just pull it apart in strings to decorate the pizzas. You could also simply cut sliced mozzarella into strips and them add them to the rounds in a random pattern.

Olive Slices: I used black olive slices for the mummy's eyes, but green olives with a pimento in the center would look pretty spooky, right? You can slice your own or buy them pre-sliced.

Italian Seasoning: While optional, it does a nice flavor.

Dough: I used the dough from Pull-Apart Buttery Dinner Rolls

Tips for Making These Mummy Pizzas:

If you want these pizzas to really look like mummies, once you add the cheese, bake them for a minimal amount of time, approximately 3 minutes, just until the cheese begins to melt (this is after you have already par-baked the pizzas.

I'm kind of in the school where I want my cheese all melty and browned, so I moved the pizzas to the top rack of the oven for an addional eight minutes. I kind of lost a little bit of the mummy look... so it's up to you.

I still think they look like mummies with the olive slices, right?

You could also cut pieces of pepperoni or peppers into shapes for eyes, nose, and mouth to represent a pumpkin's face.

I'm sure kids could be very creative!

These mini pizza mummies are a fun treat to serve around Halloween!

Ingredients

  • 8 pieces of prepared dinner roll dough, shaped into individual round rolls (after the first rise)
  • 1/3 cup pizza sauce
  • 8 individually wrapped string cheese (about 1 ounce each), pulled apart into thin strips.
  • 16 sliced olives
  • Sprinkle of Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F with a rack in the middle. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Flatten each dough round into a circle and roll individually into 4 inch rounds. Spread each with about 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of pizza sauce and spread it over the dough. Using a fork, prick the round with a fork several times, as you would pie dough.
  3. Bake the rounds for about 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the pan from the oven and place two olive slices on each round and arrange the cheese strings in random patterns to resemble a mummy. Sprinkle with a small amount of Italian seasoning.
  5. For the ultimate mummy look, bake for an additional 4 minutes, until just melted. To brown the cheese and melt it even more (optional), move the pan to the top rack and bake for an additional 5 to 8 minutes.
